Sparks - This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us/Thank God It's Not Christmas

The Minutemen, the Smiths, and the Sparks probably write the best song titles. The Minutemen have Political Song for Michael Jackson to Sing, Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want the Truth?, and The Roar of the Masses Could be Farts, among others. The Smiths have That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore, Girlfriend in a Coma, and Shoplifters of the World Unite, to name a few. The Sparks have the two featured in this post along with Falling In Love With Myself Again, Angst in My Pants, and Rock and Roll People in a Disco World. Stellar. But what about the songs themselves?!?!

Sometimes the Sparks can be a little patchy, but Kimono My House is great throughout. Funny lyrics, solid guitars, and great vocals. I love the lyrics and insane grandeur of the singing in this part of Thank God It's Not Christmas.

Visually, the band is also intriguing. There's the initial shock of finding out that the singer is actually a guy, along with the unnerving stare of the Hitler look-alike keyboard player. Their songs are so over-the-top that this album could practically be a Broadway play. I know I'd go see it.
